What is Focusing?
Core Concept: A way to listen to your body’s intuitive wisdom–the “felt sense”– to understand and resolve emotional issues
Key Elements:
Felt Sense: A holistic, unclear bodily knowing about a situation, not just a thought
Engaged, Accepting Attention: A curious, friendly, non-judgmental attitude towards whatever arises
Steps: The process involving clearing an inner space, finding the felt sense, connecting words to it, and receiving shifts in understanding
Purpose: To gain new insights, foster healing, and align actions with deeper feelings, moving beyond simply knowing the "why" of a problem
Lineage: Focusing was developed by American philosopher and psychotherapist Eugene Gendlin in the 1960s
My Story
Hi, I’m Ella.
I have the heart of a mystic and the mind of a pattern creator.
I have spent my life uncovering and following my own felt sense as it relentlessly and lovingly led me up and out from the abusive conditioning of having grown up in a cult. I share about this on my podcast Free the Stories: Growing up in a Predatory, Doomsday Cult.
I have a profound trust in the body’s wisdom, and an epic capacity to make sense of, and act from, the information it shares. I am the kind of person who folks tend to want to share the inner world of their hearts with.
I am the mother of two amazing teenage sons and live with them, my partner and our dog on Salt Spring Island in the Pacific Northwest of Canada. I am an avid astrologer, a musician, an intuitive and an author. My passion for authenticity and interpersonal truth has led me to studies and practices in meditation, martial arts, sexual shamanism, tarot, and of course, Focusing.
